The Lord Will Fulfill His Purpose For Me - Psalm 138:8

Updated: Jun 7

Welcome to Day 30 for a short powerful devotion from our 30 Psalms For Anxiety, Fear, Worry, And Depression Bible plan. This short devotional is from Psalm 138:8. This is the last day of our Bible study, and what a beautiful and encouraging verse to finish it with!

You don't have to worry - God will fulfill His purpose for you!

The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me - Psalm 138:8

Read Psalm 138:8: (Click on the verse to read it in various translations.)

"The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands."ESV

What a powerful declaration! The psalmist acknowledges that God has a specific purpose for his life, and he expresses unwavering faith that the Lord will see it through to completion.

This verse reminds us that each of us has a unique purpose and calling in this world. Our lives have meaning and significance in the grand tapestry of God's plan, and because God's love for us endures forever, we can have confidence that He will never forsake the work He has begun in our lives.

It is important to note that God's purpose for our lives may not always match up with our own expectations or desires. Sometimes, we may face challenges, setbacks, or detours along the way. But even in those moments, don't worry, you can take heart in the truth that God's purpose remains unshakable. He is not limited by your circumstances or hindered by your failures. In fact, He often works through them to shape you and me, teach us, and ultimately bring about His perfect plan.

This past year I have wrestled with the idea that God accomplishes His purpose and His plan, His way, without my help. I thought that my job was to help Him achieve His plan for me and my family. But He clearly showed me that is not the case!

Do you ever wrestle with this notion too?

Do you find it hard to be still and let the God of the universe (Elohim) work out His purpose in your life?

The unwavering love of God

"...your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever." The psalmist continues his praise by acknowledging the enduring and unwavering love of God. His love is not temporary or conditional. It is steadfast and everlasting. It is a love that knows no bounds, that reaches into the deepest parts of our souls, and that remains with us through every season of life. It is a love that offers comfort in times of distress, strength in times of weakness, and grace in times of failure.

Don't worry, you are not alone, you are deeply valued and cherished by the Creator of the universe. God has amazing plans for you that you may not even have considered for your life (Jeremiah 29:11)

Take hold of the last part of Psalm 138:8 and let it encourage your heart.

The psalmist cries, "Do not forsake the work of your hands."

This plea reflects his deep reliance on God's faithfulness and his recognition of his own dependence on the Lord's presence and guidance. It serves as a reminder for us to surrender ourselves to God's will and trust in His divine leading.

God, as our loving Creator, has intricately designed and formed us (Psalm 139:13-16)He has crafted us with purpose, uniqueness, and intention. And just as a skilled artisan does not abandon their creation, God will not forsake us. He will continue to mold us, refine us, and fulfill His plans for our lives.
