God's Goodness
Goodness is one of God's attributes.
God is good.
It's not merely His actions; it's His very essence. While the world shifts and wavers, He remains steadfast and unchanging.
The Biblical definition of "God's goodness" is multifaceted and deeply rooted throughout scripture, which portrays God’s nature, character, and actions as the ultimate standard of goodness. This goodness is a basic part of God's identity – it's not just about His actions.
"Recognizing God's goodness is foundational to an accurate understanding of God's character."
Here’s a summary of what the Bible says about God's goodness:
1. God is good - He is moral perfection
The Bible presents God as the embodiment of perfect morality. In Mark 10:18, Jesus says, "No one is good—except God alone," affirming that goodness is part of God’s essence and character.
2. God's creation is good
In the creation narrative of Genesis (Genesis 1), God repeatedly looks at what He has made and declares it "good," indicating that what comes from God is reflective of His goodness.
3. God is a good provider
God’s goodness is shown through His provision for us. This is what 2 Corinthians 9:8 ESV says,
"And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work."
If you have been reading our articles for a long time, you will know that I treasure the Hebrew names of God. You can read all about the Hebrew name of God as Provider ( Yahweh-Yireh-The Lord Will Provide)
4. God is good in His redemptive nature
The redemptive action of God through history, and specifically in sending Jesus Christ for the salvation of humanity, is seen as the ultimate expression of His goodness.
John 3:16 states, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
God is our redeemer. Not only does God redeem us from sin but He redeems our situations too. We see this in Romans 8:28 ESV.
5. God is good, His Steadfast Love and Faithfulness last forever
God’s goodness is also tied to His steadfast love (Hebrew: "hesed") and faithfulness, which indicates a commitment to His covenants and promises, as expressed in passages like
"For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations."
God is good even in the midst of the storm
I wanted to write a short paragraph about how God is good even in the midst of the storm. As I write this, I can only imagine some of the scenarios that you might be going through as you read this post.
I have been through many storms and I have seen God bring peace in the midst of the churning storm raging around me, and He did bring good out of those storms. You can read some of my testimony in the book, 'Life Changing Stories: A Devotional Collection Revealing God's Faithfulness and Transforming Power', published by Butterfly Living.
I Don't mean to be flippant by saying, God is good all the time. But it's true, God is good all the time, and all the time God is good. It is His nature. He is pure goodness.
God is good is pure scriptural truth. There is never a time when God is not good. This scriptural truth is something you can cling to and believe in no matter what circumstances you are going through.

7. My favorite bible verse about God being good: God gives good gifts - James 1:17 ESV
"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change."
James 1:17 speaks of every good and perfect gift coming from above, assuring us that God's goodness is unchanging and continually at work in our lives.
Your Goodness is Running after Me Bible Verse
Have you sung the song," Goodness of God " by Jenn Johnson at church?
This is a beautiful song of worship full of scripture that often leads me into the secret place with God - right into His Presence.
When my heart is heavy with sadness, I sing this song, and the words, "His goodness is running after me, it's running after me", fill me with hope. You can read a breakdown of this song by The Bearan Test here.
These are some of the Bible verses referred to in the Goodness of God song.
8. God's goodness will follow you all the days of your life -
"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in
the house of the Lord forever."
The Hebrew word for 'follow' in Psalm 23:6, means 'to be behind, follow after, pursue, persecute or to run after'. God's goodness is running after you!
When you surrender your will to God, He will lead you. It may not always be a pleasant road to go down but God's goodness - His presence follows after you.

Bible Verses About The Goodness Of God
12. God is good - He protects us from accusing tongues! Psalm 31:19-20 NLT

You hide them in the shelter of your presence, safe from those who conspire against them. You shelter them in your presence, far from accusing tongues."
I have marked Psalm 31:19-20 in my Prayer Bible, written it on cards to memorize, and it's on my war room wall. I hate to have to admit that I need to pray these verses over my husband. There have been wrongful words spoken about him and have brought harm to my family.
The only way to combat warfare like this is through praying God's word over our loved ones!

Then we cried to the Lord, the God of our fathers, and the Lord heard our voice and saw our affliction, our toil, and our oppression. And the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, with great deeds of terror, with signs and wonders. And he brought us into this place and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey.
Another Hebrew name of God is, El Roi which means the God who sees me. Make sure to read about this awesome name of God here. You will be encouraged.

Prayer to thank God for His Goodness
Heavenly Father, I come before You with a heart full of gratitude for Your unending goodness. Your love envelops my life in every high and low. As the sun rises each day, it is a testament to Your faithful mercies, new every morning.
Thank You for the countless ways Your goodness manifests in my life. Thank you for Your promises in scripture, of how You work for the good of those who love You. In the tapestry of my life, let each thread reflect the beauty of Your grace. Help me to see Your hand in every circumstance, to recognize Your wisdom guiding my path, even when the road is rugged and the journey is challenging.
Thank you for Your ultimate act of goodness, the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ. John 3:16 resonates in my heart, a promise of Your love so deep that You gave Your only Son for us.
In times when the journey is hard, and my vision is clouded by trials, help me to hold onto the truth of Your goodness. Give me the strength to trust in Your plan, even when I don’t understand it. Teach me to see Your goodness not only in blessings but also in the challenges that shape me into the person You have created me to be.
Help me, Lord, to reflect Your goodness in my words and actions. Let my life be a mirror of Your love, showing patience, kindness, and compassion to those around me. May my words bring healing, and my actions bring hope, as I seek to be a vessel of Your goodness in this world.
Thank You, Father, for the assurance that no matter what I face, Your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life. I rest in the peace that comes from knowing You are always good, and Your plans for me are perfect.
In Jesus name, Amen.
Conclusion: God's Goodness
I hope you have enjoyed reading about what the Bible has to say about God's goodness. From the comforting words of Psalm 34:8, inviting us to "taste and see that the LORD is good," to the reassurance of Romans 8:28, where we are reminded that "in all things, God works for the good of those who love him," each verse reminds us that God is always up to something good for those who love Him.
It's like having a constant reminder that even when things seem confusing or tough, God has our back.
We are reminded too in James 1:17 that every good thing we have comes from God. It's like He's always showering us with gifts!
Reading these verses is more than just words on a page; it's like getting a big, warm hug from God, telling us He's here, He cares, and He's good all the time. It's a wonderful feeling to know that no matter what's happening around us, we can count on God's goodness.
So, let's keep these verses close to our hearts, to give us strength every day!
