2 Corinthians 5:7 Meaning
What is the real meaning behind 2 Corinthians 5:7?
What does it mean to walk by faith and not by sight?
Paul the Apostle is speaking to the believers in Corinth. Paul was passionate about proclaiming the gospel to them. He was trying to convey to them the truth that they can not earn their salvation by works or deeds. They had to live by faith. They had to walk by faith and not by sight.
It would have been exciting for the believers in Corinth to learn all about who Jesus is and the miracles that He had performed. They would have heard the stories from Paul and other witnesses.
Can you imagine hearing all these stories from someone who witnessed them?
For those believers of Jesus Christ living in Corinth, the works and miracles of Jesus were only stories told by those who had traveled with Him. They had to trust and believe that the words of truth that Paul spoke were true. They like us were in the same position. They had to grow in faith. Their faith had to be made strong so that they could still stand in the midst of difficult times and circumstances.
Join me as we discuss what it means to walk by faith and not by sight.
Spoiler alert.....our emotions and feelings can lead us down the wrong path!
Walk By Faith Not By Sight
What does it mean to walk by faith, not by sight?
We live by faith, not by sight. That is what God calls us to do. To grow in our faith walk is to do it by continually walking in God's grace and believing that His word is true.
It takes great faith to be a Christian, to believe that Jesus died on the cross to purchase eternal life for you. But the joy and peace from really knowing God in your life is so worth taking that step, for we live by faith and not by sight.
For we walk by faith and not by sight
Walking by faith in this life, means we are to rely completely on all that God has said in His Word.
We do not make decisions by what we see or feel.
Now, I have to tell you that this is hard! I know this truth but I know that I stumble every day! I know that my feelings lie to me but I often listen to them and most times I regret the action taken on those feelings. I make much better, Godly decisions now than I have in the past but I need to stay plugged into God and listen for the Holy Spirit's direction in all that I do.
Feelings can mislead us and steal our faith more than any other influence. The major problem with our feelings is that they change constantly. One morning you may wake up feeling all motivated and ready to do all that is on your 'to-do list' or you might wake up and not feel like conquering anything on your 'to-do list'.
Feelings can also provoke you to say something that you might later regret.
So, what can you do? How can you be in more control of your life and walk by faith?
You need to read what God says in the Bible. Search out what God says about the different issues that you face in this troubling world. You need to remember that we have an enemy that we do not see. Satan likes to trip us up on our faith walk. He does not want us to grow in our faith in God and he uses our feelings to trip us up. Remember your emotions can be unreliable.
I find that I might get upset at something and in the heat of the moment believe the wrong thing. I also find that if I step away from whatever causes the upsetting emotion and turn to God for His perspective, suddenly I see it for what it is and it usually is not the big deal that my feelings portrayed!
Emotions are unreliable, do not trust or believe them.
Live by faith not by sight
Instead of believing your emotions - live by faith and prayerfully respond with your heart. When you stay plugged into God and you are constantly prayerfully reading your Bible, then the Holy Spirit abides in you and He will fill you with God's peace. Trust that peace and not your emotions. When you have to make a decision, make sure you know God's peace in your heart, and then you will know which decision to make.

Thank you Father for your grace. Help me to remember not to trust my feelings or emotions but instead to run straight to You and listen for Your truth in the matter. Help me to trust that You are there and that You are working in my circumstances even when I don't yet see it or perceive it. Strengthen me to walk by faith. Amen.
