Welcome to Day 10. for one of our short powerful devotions from the 30 Bible Verses About God's Amazing Grace, bible reading plan. This short devotional is based on 2 Timothy 1:9-10.
Read 2 Timothy 1:9-10.
"who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began, 10 but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,"
2 Timothy is the last letter that the Apostle Paul would write. These final words from Paul were written from prison to a young pastor, called Timothy. We don’t know a lot about Timothy except that he was a leader in the Ephesian church and he was like a son to Paul. Paul wrote this letter to encourage Timothy in his ministry.
Holy Calling
When you have time read the whole chapter of 2 Timothy 1. You will find that Timothy was a little timid and Paul points out to him that fear does not come from God ( 2 Timothy 1:7). He tells him that God gives us power, love, a calm and well-balanced mind, discipline, and self-control. You will also learn that he was blessed to have a mother and grandmother who taught him about faith in Jesus Christ. He encouraged Timothy to rekindle the passion for Christ that he had in his youth.
Called With A Holy Calling: Short Devotional
God has called us to be holy.
Did you notice what it says in 2 Timothy 1:9?
"who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began,"
This verse says:
You have a holy calling.
God chose you for this holy calling because He loves you outrageously and not because of anything that you have ever done. You may have done the most amazing, selfless acts but that is not why God has chosen you. He chose you because He just wanted to.
God chose you on purpose. And He chose you before time began! Now that is what I call grace! Time is something that God created to give order to our present world but God lives outside of time. It is a holy mystery. God existed before time was created and will remain when time ends, and we will live on in eternity with Him. Paul is saying that God meticulously planned to pour out His grace on you before He even created the earth and all the amazing various species of animals. It was you He planned to pour out His grace on and He also created you on purpose for a purpose.
2 Timothy verse 10 reminds us that when God sent Jesus to earth for the sole purpose of redeeming us from our sins through His death on the cross, it was then that He revealed His purpose and grace for us, this is His purpose from the beginning of time.
God has been planning your salvation for millions of years. We come to God as a response to His call in our lives. We did not initiate the search to find God. It was all His doing. We do not find God, He found us and our response is to follow Him passionately.
You are called with a holy calling. What is your response?
God is calling you. He is calling you into a relationship with Him and God is also calling you to walk strong in your faith and not to be afraid to tell others about His amazing grace which He has given us since before time began.
