30 Bible Verses About Women's Strength

Updated: May 28

Inside this post, you will discover that the Bible is full of verses and stories about women's strength to strengthen a woman's heart, and to empower her in every area of her life. The Bible says that you are a precious woman of God!

Do you know the supernatural secret to finding the strength for a woman, each day in all the various facets of your life?

We need strength for each day for the many situations that we encounter. We need physical strength, emotional and mental strength, and most importantly spiritual strength.

The only answer to finding the supernatural strength that we ladies need is in Jesus. When you know Jesus as your savior, you have direct access to the throne room of God. God is right there waiting, longing for you to come seek Him and invite Him into every area of your life. He longs to give you His wisdom, and strength for all your situations.

My hope is that these Bible verses about women's strength will encourage and strengthen your heart.

Women's strength

Sometimes we all just hit a wall and feel like we can't take another step forward. It can be because we're drained mentally, emotionally, or physically.

As women, it tends to be us who run around after everyone in the family, making sure the children have their outfits set out for the school day, packed lunches made (full of nutritional value!), homework slips signed, and plans for dinner made.

I don't mean to intentionally leave men out of the work of house and home but we do know that women are naturally better at organization!

There are way more demands on women than I have time to write about. The point is that life is crazy busy for the single woman, the woman who takes care of the home, the homeschool mamma, and the woman who works both outside and inside the home!

My story has been through many phases. My career started out in nursing. Wow! That was a stressful season and I leaned heavily on God. I then moved to a new season of motherhood and at the same time, my husband had what we jokingly call a midlife crisis. God called him into the Church Of Ireland ministry.

This involved my husband giving up his job, training for 3 years in college, and applying for jobs as a church minister. This meant that we had practically zero income for 3 years. I soon learned how to multitask. I became a childminder so that I could take care of our miracle baby and I was blessed to care for at least 30 children during the 3 years of college!

I had to learn quickly to find my strength in God. We saw many financial miracles and in this post, I am going to share with you 30 Bible verses that filled me with the strength that I as a woman needed.

I prayed through these verses and honestly, at times I cried through them.

Empowering Bible verses for women

What does the Bible say about women's strength?

I have found the perfect way to renew a woman's strength is to run straight to the Lord. He alone knows all things, He sees all that we do (Proverbs 21:5), and He is wisdom, with the answers and strength that we desperately seek.

This is the ultimate Bible verse about our source of strength:

"But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; They shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. "Isaiah 40:31 ESV.

Take some time to wait on the Lord (sit in His presence) and let Him refill your soul with His endless wisdom and strength. The Lord never leaves us. He is with us all the time. The more we realize this, the more exciting life becomes!

God wants to be involved in every aspect of your life - so invite Him!

Knowledge is power. When women immerse themselves in scripture, they equip themselves with a profound understanding that can be a source of empowerment, allowing them to stand firm in their beliefs and values.

As you go through the following 30 empowering Bible verses, my hope for you is to discover the kind of supernatural strength that a woman can find through tuning into God’s word and being refreshed in His presence.

The Bible is full of stories of awesome strong women who discovered that their supernatural strength is found in one source only, in God!

The Bible not only portrays tales of formidable women who wielded their strength with grace and dignity but also offers guiding principles that can steer us, modern women through life’s complicated situations.

Bible verses about Women's Strength

Strength in a Woman's Character

"Strength and dignity are her clothing,

and she laughs at the time to come."

A precious woman of God is inspired by Proverbs 31. A woman of God embodies strength, self-respect, and elegance. She's fully aware of her value and isn't afraid to roll up her sleeves or take leaps of faith to reach her goals. Leading with a heart full of kindness, her words radiate wisdom, and her actions are deeply rooted in faith. A precious godly woman draws her strength from God, her bravery and determination create ripples of positivity, making the world a brighter place for everyone in her circle.

2. 1 Peter 3:3-4 ESV - A woman's strength is found in her value of inner beauty and a gentle spirit.

"Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear—4 but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious."

Peter is addressing Christian wives, emphasizing the importance of nurturing their inner selves. God advises them to focus on enhancing their inner beauty, making the "hidden person of the heart" more visible in their everyday lives. This inner beauty is characterized by a gentle and peaceful spirit, a type of attractiveness that endures over time and is of immense value in God’s eyes.

3. Psalm 139:14 ESV - A woman's strength is found in celebrating being fearfully and wonderfully made.

"I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well."

Your heart will be strengthened when you celebrate the truth that you are fearfully and wonderfully made. God created you to be unique. You are an original. There is no one else like you. You have been created with unique gifts. Use them to bring glory to your God your Father and bless those around you.

4. Proverbs 31:30 - Her strength is found in fearing the Lord!

"Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,

but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised."

Proverbs 31:30 reminds us that while worldly attributes may fade, a heart anchored in reverence and love for God shines eternally and deserves true admiration.

A Woman's Strength is trusting in God's plan

5. Jeremiah 29:11 ESV - A woman's strength is found in the assurance of God's good plans for her.

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."

When your life is turned upside down and your future looks hopeless, hold on tight to the truth of this verse. God has good plans for you and they are not evil. Spend time seeking Him and listen for His direction.

6. Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV - The strength of a woman is trusting God over her own understanding.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths."

These verses call us to place our faith and trust in God, surrendering to Him our limited human perspective and understanding. By truly committing every aspect of your life to God's guidance, you gain His wisdom and strength for every situation.

7. Romans 8:28 ESV- A woman's strength is trusting God works everything for the good of those who love Him.

"And we know that for those who love God, all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose."

This scripture emboldens you to face every situation, even those riddled with adversity, with a hopeful heart, anchored in the knowledge that God is orchestrating all the events in your life for your ultimate good. You will find your strength and hope in His presence. Listen for God's promptings, and nudging of direction.

Right now ( 2023) I am praying for God to work things out in my son's life. Through circumstances beyond his control, he was refused a place in college but through pure determination, prayer, and discipline, he is forging an untraditional path. He found a new course that is perfect for his gifts and it seems to be leading to a job that he is perfectly suited to. Only God can do this.

A Woman's strength in overcoming challenges and fears

8. Philippians 4:13 ESV- A woman gains her strength through Christ

"I can do all things through him who strengthens me."

Philippians 4:13 reminds us that every woman finds her true source of strength, resilience, and empowerment deeply rooted in Christ. It is only through Jesus Christ and His resurrection power that she overcomes challenges, fulfills every duty, and becomes the person that God has created her to be.

9. Psalm 46:5 - A woman's strength comes from the protection and stability God provides.

"God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved;

God will help her when morning dawns."

Psalm 46:5 is a much loved and encouraging verse often used to encourage women but please note that the word, 'her' in this verse is actually referring to Jerusalem. However, this verse can be totally applied to both men and women living today.

God is in the 'midst of you'. This is profound assurance that with God's presence and His strength you will not succumb to adversity. Each morning God's fresh mercies and help are yours to embrace.

10. Isaiah 40:31 ESV - A woman renews her strength in the Lord.

"But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;

they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint."

Isaiah 40:31 reassures us that placing our hope in the Lord does not just renew our strength, but elevates us to heights we could never reach on our own, granting us the endurance to run without weariness and walk without fainting. In daily life, this verse calls us to lean on God’s unfailing strength, encouraging us to rise above life’s challenges with renewed vigor.

More Bible verses to strengthen a woman's heart

11. Joshua 1:9 ESV - A woman's strength is knowing God will make her courageous!

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

This verse encourages you to be strong and courageous, unafraid and undeterred in any situation, for the Lord our God is with you wherever you go, providing a constant source of strength and protection.

12. 2 Timothy 1:7 ESV - A woman's strength is found in understanding she has no need to fear

"For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control."

God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and a sound mind, encouraging us to embrace boldness and disciplined thinking through the love of God. The Greek word used in 2 Timothy 1:7 for "power" is "dunamis," which refers to the ability to accomplish something or the capacity for action.

When you surrender to the Holy Spirit, and invite Him to work in your life, you receive this same power.

13. Isaiah 41:10 ESV - A woman can be strong - God will uphold her by His righteous right hand

"Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God;

I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

This verse is such a great promise! It comforts us with God's promise of steadfast support and strength, encouraging us not to fear or be dismayed as God is with us, upholding us with His righteous right hand. (This is often my go-to verse when I need a reminder of God's strength for my life)

14. Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV - A woman's strength comes from understanding new mercies come every morning!

"The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end;

they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."

Lamentations 3:22-23 reveals two key truths about God's character: His unwavering love and limitless mercies. The verses also highlight the promise of daily renewal, offering us a fresh start each morning, regardless of yesterday's challenges.

The past is behind us, and we can embrace the day ahead with hope and gratitude. It's a reminder that no matter what yesterday held, today is an opportunity for renewal and transformation.

15. Matthew 11:28 ESV - A woman is strengthened when she gives God her burdens

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

Are you weary? Come to Jesus for rest. Let Him take your burden off your shoulders. Give Him your cares and sit in His presence. Surrender everything to Him and trust Him to guide you through your situation.

When you do, you will find deep and lasting rest that only God can provide, allowing you to exchange your burdens for His peace and refreshment.

16. Psalm 37:4 ESV - A woman's strength comes from delighting herself in the Lord

"Delight yourself in the Lord,

and he will give you the desires of your heart."

When we prioritize our delight in the Lord, and He becomes the deepest longing of our hearts, something remarkable happens. He begins to shape our desires in alignment with His will. Our hearts become attuned to His purposes and plans. Then we find what we desire is increasingly in harmony with what God desires for us.

17. Romans 8:38-39 ESV - A woman finds her strength when she comprehends nothing can ever separate her from God's love!

"For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Nothing can separate you from the love of God. Absolutely nothing!

The Apostle Paul expresses the idea that God’s love is the most powerful force in existence, surpassing all challenges, fears, and uncertainties that you might encounter in life. It is meant to provide comfort and security to believers, grounding them in the assurance of God's ceaseless love, which remains steadfast irrespective of your circumstances. God's love is not conditional; it is a stable and enduring foundation for you as a believer to hold onto in all situations.

18. Psalm 28:7 ESV- A woman's strength comes from knowing the Lord as her shield

"The Lord is my strength and my shield; in Him my heart trusts, and I am helped;

my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him."

In this verse, the psalmist David is expressing his complete trust and confidence in the Lord. Describing the Lord as his "strength" and "shield" symbolizes God as a source of protection and the one who gives him the power to face any challenges.

Be like David! Put your complete trust in God and you will immediately sense His sweet and restoring peace wash over you.

19. Hebrews 11:1 ESV - A woman's strength is found through faith

"Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen."

Hebrews 11:1 beautifully encapsulates the essence of faith. It reminds us that faith isn't just a wishful thought; it's a confident assurance in the promises of God, even when we can't see them with our eyes.

Start flexing your faith muscle! When you trust God with your circumstances, you are walking in obedience to Him. So your heart can be strengthened because you trust God to turn around whatever needs to be turned around in your life.

Proverbs For Women

20. Proverbs 31:16-17 ESV - A strong woman makes wise decisions

"She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.

She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong."

Do you see yourself in Proverbs 31:16-17?

It depicts a virtuous woman as one who makes wise financial decisions, invests in a fruitful land, and works vigorously to provide for her household, embodying strength and dignity in her endeavors.

In our own lives, we can learn from this woman's example. Whether it's in our careers, relationships, or personal goals, diligence, and strength are virtues that can lead to success and fulfillment. We are reminded that God has equipped us with the ability to tackle our responsibilities with vigor and purpose.

21. Proverbs 31:20-21 ESV - A woman's strength is reflected in serving others

"She opens her hand to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy.

She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet"

The Proverbs 31 woman proactively aids the poor and ensures her family's well-being. Her household wearing scarlet, a symbol of warmth and wealth in biblical times, signifies her preparedness and ability to provide the best, safeguarding her family against unexpected challenges.

22. Luke 1:45 - Blessed is she

"And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her

from the Lord.”

This verse can be seen as a powerful affirmation for women to hold steadfast in their faith and trust in God's promises. It encourages women to believe confidently in the fulfillment of God's word and his plans for their lives.

Mary the mother of Jesus was blessed because she believed what the angel Gabriel had said to her would be fulfilled. We discuss in more detail the strength of Mary in our Strong Women In The Bible digital/printable study.

23. Proverbs 11:16 ESV - A woman's strength with gracious rewards!

"A gracious woman gets honor,

and violent men get riches."

This proverb suggests that a woman who embodies grace, kindness, and possibly wisdom, earns respect and honor from people around her. It values moral virtue over the mere accumulation of wealth, and it portrays honor as a more worthy pursuit than wealth gained through ruthless methods.

24. Proverbs 3:15 ESV - A strong woman is a wise woman who seeks God's wisdom

"She is more precious than jewels,

and nothing you desire can compare with her."

In this verse, "she" refers to wisdom, which is being personified as a woman. The proverb expresses the immense value and worth of wisdom, placing it above even the most precious of jewels, rubies. It implies that acquiring wisdom is the highest form of wealth, surpassing all material riches and any other thing that one might desire.

Be a wise woman and earnestly seek God's wisdom through reading and praying through His word, the Bible.

25. Proverbs 31:26 ESV - A strong woman speaks kindness and wisdom

"She opens her mouth with wisdom,

and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue."

Proverbs 31:26 points to the powerful weight of words. The words we choose can heal or harm, build up or tear down, guide or mislead.

A strong woman uses her wise speech to nurture. Her kind disposition portrays her as someone who not only speaks wisely but also uses her words to uplift others, imparting teachings of kindness. This isn’t just a reflection of her intellect but of her heart and her relationship with God.

26. Proverbs 14:1 ESV - She builds a strong home

"The wisest of women builds her house,

but folly with her own hands tears it down."

A strong woman endowed with wisdom plays a crucial role in fostering a healthy, happy, and stable family environment. She employs her knowledge, understanding, and prudent decision-making to nurture and strengthen the relationships within her family, contributing to its growth and prosperity.

However a foolish woman, through her lack of foresight, improper judgment, or negative behaviors, can bring strife, discord, and ruin to her family, potentially leading to its breakdown.

Don't be a foolish woman!

27. Psalm 27:1 ESV- A woman's strength comes from knowing the Lord

"The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life;

of whom shall I be afraid?"

In the face of adversity, a strong woman stands fearless because she recognizes that with the Lord as her guiding light and protective stronghold, there is nothing and no one to fear. Her strength emanates from a deep-seated faith, a reliance on the divine fortress that empowers her to navigate life's challenges with courage and a heart unburdened by fear.

28. Proverbs 31:27 ESV - A strong woman is not an idle woman

"She looks well to the ways of her household

and does not eat the bread of idleness."

The Proverbs 31:27 woman embodies strength and vigilance, tirelessly attending to her household's needs and fostering its growth. She refrains from idleness. In our fast-paced society, it's vital to discern between true diligence and mere activity. Authentic diligence is driven by purpose, while mere busyness can often lack direction and productivity.

29. Proverbs 5:21 ESV - A strong woman recognizes that God sees all that she does!

"For a man's ways are before the eyes of the Lord,

and he ponders all his paths."

Nothing is hidden from God. He knows what we think, what we will do and say before we do it. Don't forget God lives in us. We are also His image bearers to the world around us. So we need to be a great reflection of God.

Consider this: God is with us all the time. The more you realize this, the more exciting life becomes. God wants to be involved in every part of your life and be involved in all you do. I write more about this in our Practicing The Presence Of God Bible study.

30. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 ESV - A strong woman is a thankful woman.

"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances;

for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."

This is the perfect verse to finish up our Bible study on what the Bible says about women's strength.

This passage encourages believers to maintain a spirit of joy, prayer, and gratitude at all times, regardless of the circumstances. When you are able to keep a thankful heart, it provides space for God to work on your behalf.

Are you in a situation that seems impossible to rectify?

You are a dwelling place for the Holy Spirit and He needs a joyful, thankful space to work in. When you praise God, you lift your eyes off of your impossible situation, unto God, who is the God of the impossible.
